WELCOME TO
PITTSBURGH
I first learned about Gilda’s Club from a brochure I
picked up at the cancer center where my Mother was being treated for breast
cancer. When my Mother died I looked to Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit to help me
deal with my profound grief. What I found was a place where no one turned away
from my pain. Gilda’s Club is a community that provides a haven for family and
friends of people with cancer. It is a place where, when someone says, “I know
exactly how you feel”, they do.
Gilda’s Club is place for people who have cancer as well.
It is a place for them to forget about cancer and feel like themselves again. It
is a place where they can share information, and resources and join in
activities. It’s a place for people who have cancer to go to be with others who
have cancer. It is a place where they are not patients or invalids. Gilda’s
Club is an incredible place filled with joy, pathos, and life. It is a community
that meets in a “clubhouse” that feels like a home. It is filled with
comfortable chairs and couches and coffee tables where it’s okay to put your
feet up and turn up the thermostat. No one comes to Gilda’s Club because they
are dying, they come because they are living.
Gilda’s Club Western Pennsylvania will make dealing with
cancer, whether patient or loved one, a less lonely and frightening experience.
Welcome to Pittsburgh Gilda’s Club, you will warm, comfort, console and touch
more lives than can ever be imagined!
